Golf teaches kids patience, honesty, focus and how to handle a bad shot. It’s also a game they can play for the rest of their lives. If you’re a parent in the Toledo, Sylvania, Temperance or Monroe County area wondering how to get started, here’s how our junior programs work.
Two ways to start: camps and clinics
Junior Golf Camps run on summer weekday mornings, Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 AM. Each camp week covers the fundamentals (grip, stance and swing), putting and short game, course etiquette and the rules. Most importantly, kids get real time on the course, not just the range. Groups are kept small so every camper gets hands-on attention.
Junior Clinics are 45-minute Saturday morning sessions for ages 8 to 14, limited to the first 10 kids. They focus on putting, chipping and short game, with on-course play and friendly competition. Clinics are a great add-on for camp kids, or a lower-commitment way to see if your child likes golf.
Does my child need experience or clubs?
No experience is needed. Complete beginners are welcome, and instructors start with the basics at each child’s pace. If your child has clubs, bring them. If not, call the pro shop before the first day and we’ll let you know what we can accommodate.
How to help your child love golf
Keep it fun. The goal at this age is to fall in love with the game. Praise effort and good attitude more than results.
Don’t over-coach. Let the instructors handle the technical stuff. Your job is encouragement and snacks.
Play together. A round of mini golf or a small bucket at the range on the weekend reinforces what they learned.
Dress for the weather. Closed-toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a full water bottle make summer mornings go smoothly.
When to sign up
Camps and clinics run in summer, and spots are limited. Dates and pricing for next season are set in the spring. The best move is to get on the early list now. Leave your info on the Junior Camps page and the pro shop will contact you as soon as registration opens.
